Library Rules
LIBRARY RULES FOR GRADES 7-12:
1. SHHHHH….
Please make a minimal amount of noise.
Do not disturb others by word or deed.
2. USE IT….
Show that you came to the library to use the resources.
The Library is for research first and formeost, then for casual
reading.
Study from textbooks, art projects, etc. should be done in the
study hall.
3. DON’T ABUSE IT….
Check out materials before you leave the library.
Return materials on time.
Take good care of the facility and the materials.
THE CONSEQUENCES:
1. First offense: You will lose the privilege of coming to the library from study hall for 2 weeks. If you need books for school assignments, make an appointment with the librarian to check them out before or after school, or come with a classroom teacher during the day. You must have a conference with the librarian to discuss your behavior before you can use the library again.
2. Second offense: You will lose your library privilege for 4 weeks.
3. Third offense: Three strikes you’re out! for the rest of the school year. You may only use the library under the direct supervision of a classroom teacher.
PROCEDURES FROM STUDY HALL:
Report to your study hall. Sign out from the study hall to come directly to the library. You do not have permission to go to lockers, restroom or anywhere else. Bring your planner with you, as your library barcode will be pasted in it. Be quiet and well-behaved in the stairwell, we can hear you. Come straight to the checkout desk when you arrive and have your barcode scanned at the dek, this time-stamps your entry. If you do not have your planner or your barcode is missing from it, you will be sent back to study hall, so take very good care of your planner.
Students may come to the library ONLY one period a day. Students with overdue books lose their library privilege until books are returned or lost books paid for. Students with failing grades are restricted to study hall and may not come to the library.
Once you are in the library, expect to stay until the bell rings at the end of the period. You have come to the library on a pass from the study hall. Do not ask the librarian for another pass to go somewhere else. If you have other business to take care of, do it under the supervision of the study hall teacher as you are limited on visits to restrooms, lockers, office, etc. Come prepared with assignments and needed materials, you will not be allowed to go to your locker. Coats, bookbags and food are not permitted in the library.
