Accelerated Reader

Accelerated Reader at Pettisville School is sponsored by the library to promote reading, learning to read and comprehending what is read. Marking books with reading levels and quizzing for comprehension are valuable tools for classroom teachers in teaching reading. To make it fun for the kids, the library offers small prizes for AR points earned:

10 points (up to 40 points) – a prize from the treasure chest
50 points – Accelerated Reader pin
100 points – AR t-shirt
150 points – library Pizza Party at the end of the year
200 points – AR ball cap
250 points – AR bookbag

You may notice that the public libraries have lots of Accelerated Reader books. Pettisville School does not hold every Accelerated Reader test for every book. If you are wondering what tests we have here at our school, here is a way to find out.

Go to the Pettisville Library catalog link. Choose the blue cat, Cat Jr.
Enter the title and click the title button. If several titles come up, select the one you want and scroll to the bottom of the full record display. Look for Reading Program. It will say Test at – PET, meaning that we have an Accelerated Reader test for that title at Pettisville.

Do you want to select titles specifically at your child’s reading level for Accelerated Reader quizzing?

At the top of the CAT JR. is a button for Reading Programs. Choose that and select Accelerated Reader. Check the box that says “please check for tests in my library”. Choose your desired reading level. Leave the other fields blank. Click the SEARCH button and you will get a hitlist of books in our library at that reading level, with Accelerated Reader Quizzes held at Pettisville School.
